Teaching Philosophy

I’ll quote two of my beloved mentors:

“Always be the teacher and the taught.”

“When a duality presents itself, seek the third thing that yearns to be expressed.”

I strive to create experiences that deepen our connection to the wonder and mystery of our lives.

You can also expect solid craft talk. I have an MFA in Writing and Literature from the Bennington Writing Seminars, and I’ve taught for over thirteen years in college & university settings.

“Ginger Eager provided the perfect environment for writers to safely share not only their writing, but all of the emotions behind their work. She provided guidance for our discussions but allowed flexibility to take our conversations in different directions. I appreciate her willingness to provide thoughtful feedback and to send the class supplemental readings. One of the best writing group experiences I've ever had.”

“Ginger was super helpful. We had great discussions of the works we brought in but also the craft itself. She managed the workshops well, not letting them get sidetracked but also allowing the discussion to go into different areas that would relate.”

“Ginger is a phenomenal teacher! The depth to which she considered each student's work, through her comments made before and after class on the piece itself to during actual class time, displayed her mastery of craft as well as her investment in bettering each of her students. Throughout class, she steered discussions on student work with a delicate touch, letting the classmates and the writer lead while also being mindful of where the writer's piece is at and what's helpful. Additionally, she provided wonderful sources and shared further thoughts on craft as follow up to class sessions, which demonstrated that different writerly concerns don't exist in a vacuum but instead can be considered holistically.”
